Several schools and businesses have been victims of a bomb threat and a ransom demand in Quebec in recent days.
Friday morning, the Apprenti-Sage primary school, in Neufchâtel, received an email threatening the establishment with detonating a bomb if an amount of money was not paid to the author of the message.
“There was quickly a deployment of police officers to carry out checks in the school, in coordination with the establishment to limit the impact of the police operation,” indicates David Poitras, spokesperson for the Police Department of the City of Quebec (SPVQ).
However, after carrying out extensive searches in the heart of the school, no explosive device was found. Everything quickly returned to normal.
But during the day, around ten other calls of similar events were reported to the police in different businesses and schools in the region. In fact, the same email was sent to all of these organizations.
“The investigation shows that the scheme has been used in recent days in several places, notably in Quebec, but also in Canada,” underlines Mr. Poitras, specifying that no natural person was directly targeted in this matter.
The SPVQ is conducting an investigation to locate and identify those responsible for this threat.
