Bolivia | Teenage girl dies in stampede at concert

(La Paz) A stampede at a concert in southeastern Bolivia has killed a 17-year-old girl and injured seven people, the hospital director said on Sunday.


The incident happened on Saturday evening during a concert by Argentinian cumbia groups, Ke Personajes and 18 Kilates, in the hall of Campo Ferial de Lajastambo, in the city of Sucre.

The place can accommodate up to 20,000 people.

“The 17-year-old unfortunately arrived deceased [à l’hôpital] “said Maria Elena Lescano, director of the San Pedro Claver hospital in Sucre, on television.

According to initial reports from the doctors who examined her, she had numerous bruises on her body,’ she added.

Seven people, all female, were also held responsible for injuries.

According to the local press, tickets for the concert had been sold out in advance, but groups of people tried to force their way in. Others tried to get out, causing confusion.

Images circulating on social networks show dozens of people trying to flee the scene, forcing the metal barriers.

Questioned by AFP, the Ministry of the Interior did not communicate an official version of the facts.
