(Montreal) The body of the man who was swept away by the waters of the Batiscan River on Friday, in Notre-Dame-de-Montauban, in Mauricie, was found Sunday, announced the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
The body of the octogenarian was discovered Sunday morning in the Batiscan River, in the Lac-aux-Sables area. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation was launched by the SQ in collaboration with the coroner’s office to clarify the circumstances of this event.
Emergency services were called to the scene of the tragedy around 11:30 p.m. Friday, as heavy rain from the remnants of post-tropical storm Debby hit Quebec.
“According to initial information, following the bad weather, the roadway collapsed in the area. Two people found themselves in a precarious position. One tried to rescue the other, but unfortunately without success,” explained Camille Savoie, spokesperson for the SQ, in an interview Saturday morning.
Drones and a helicopter from the SQ were deployed to participate in the search.
