(Sigulda) Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton has placed 10 of its athletes and three of its staff on COVID-19 protocols.
A spokesperson for the national sports organization confirmed the outbreak on Wednesday.
“Our priority has always been the health and safety of all athletes, teams, staff and the communities where we live, train and compete,” Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton said in a statement. (We have) strong health and safety protocols in place, under the direction of federal, state, and local public health officials, which we continue to follow. ”
The Canadian bobsleigh team had spent the holidays in Latvia to minimize travel before the next World Cup in Sigulda. The skeleton team has no positive cases of COVID-19.
The 13 affected bobsleigh team members are all in quarantine and Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton has said he is helping everyone.
“Our focus now remains to monitor and care for all of our group members who have been affected,” said Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton.
Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton has said it will not release any other information about those affected in order to respect their privacy.
Qualification for the next Olympic Winter Games, in Beijing in 2022, will be based on world rankings as of January 16. Countries qualify boats and national sports organizations then select which athletes will take place.
The World Cup event in Latvia is a two-man double race. Two more full weekends of competition are planned in Winterberg, Germany on January 8-9, as well as in St. Mortiz, Switzerland on January 15-16.
