In her first Olympic competition as a US citizen, Humphries climbed to the top of the standings after two runs in the discipline on Sunday.

Reigning world monobob champion Humphries clocked a combined time of 2:09.10, giving her a 1.04 second lead over Canadian Christine de Bruin (2:10.14).

Germany’s Laura Nolte advanced to third with a time of 2:10.32. American Elana Meyers Taylor, a three-time Olympic medalist, follows in fourth place (2:10.42).

Barring a huge mistake, these are the four women who will fight for the three available medals. The last two races will take place on Sunday evening.

Cynthia Appiah, the other Canadian to compete in this event, clocked a combined time of 2:11.28 and is tied in 10and square.

Humphries didn’t have the best start, as she was 21 hundredths of a second behind Meyers Taylor when she entered her craft.

Humphries doesn’t need a strong start to make up for lost time, however. Mastering his bobsled allowed him to set a track record at the Yanqing Sliding Center (1:04.44).

On her second run, she ousted de Bruin from first place with a time of 1:04.66. Humphries wore the colors of Canada for three Olympic Games before representing the United States.
