Board games | Party games imagined in Quebec

It is known, in Quebec, we like to celebrate… and we like the games of party, especially when they are from Quebec. Here are four to add a playful touch to your holiday break.

Match 5

What is cold and what makes you laugh? The Bonhomme Carnaval! What is carnivorous and lives in water? A shark ! In Match 5, players have to make connections between different concepts in an attempt to score as many points as possible. As it is chance which determines the concepts to be combined, it is not always easy… Each correct answer is worth one point, but when several players have the same answer, the score increases. We must therefore avoid responses that are too far-fetched.

Namely: nothing prevents you from increasing the number of players beyond the eight suggested … A game of party smart (and a bit stressful when using the hourglass!).

  • Number of players: 2 to 8
  • Age: 10 years and over
  • Duration: 20 minutes
  • Difficulty level: beginner
  • Author: Carl Brière
  • Publisher: Synapses Games
  • Price: $ 35

Guess the sogne

The game Devine the Sogne is ideal for fans of popular music.

Fans of popular music will shine in this simple game, since you have to determine the title of a song from a short excerpt of the lyrics. Only problem: these words are translated word for word, which gives an often strange result. An example ? “Every night in my dreams I see you I feel you. The answer is (drum roll): my heart Will Go On, performed by Céline Dion. If you find it, you earn three points!

The game can be played in cooperative or competitive mode, and four different difficulty levels are offered. The box contains more than 400 French songs translated into English or English songs in their French version to guess. A game that makes the guests sing every time!

  • Number of players: from 2 to 16
  • Age: 14 and over
  • Duration: 15 minutes
  • Difficulty level: beginner
  • Authors: Chloée Deblois and Marc-Antoine Bazinet
  • Publisher: Randolph
  • Price: $ 27

Char-ark

The Char-ark board game was created by two animators from 96.9 CKOI.

96.9 CKOI hosts Billy Tellier and Sébastien Hurteau have invented a new game that mixes charade and dubious word games. His name: Char-ark. The goal is to guess the word or the expression which is behind this astonishing amalgamation. As the authors of this game say so well: no need to think too long, the stupidest answer is often the best … A version “for drinking” has even been imagined, for 18 years and over. A game with no other pretension than to make people laugh!

  • Number of players: 3 and more
  • Age: 16 and over
  • Duration: 15 minutes
  • Difficulty level: beginner
  • Authors: Billy Tellier and Sébastien Hurteau
  • Publisher: Gladius International
  • Price: $ 20

What Do You Meme?

The What Do You Meme? Board game now exists in an all-Quebec version.

Here is the Quebec edition of a humorous game that has won over many people around the world. Its principle is very similar to the very popular L’osti d’jeu. Players must try to make the silliest combinations between an image card and a text card, in order to create the best meme (like the ones that circulate extensively on social media).

Note: some cards are rated 18 years and over because of their rating trash. Whether you keep them in the game or not is up to you. Because certain subjects can be avoided between the turkey and the Yule log …

  • Number of players: 3 and more
  • Age: 18 and over
  • Duration: 30 to 90 minutes
  • Difficulty level: beginner
  • Publisher: Randolph
  • Price: $ 40
