Zalatoris has said he wants to be ready for the final stage of the qualifiers next week.

Last week, during the initial stage of these playoffs, Zalatoris scored the first victory of his career on the PGA Tour.

This feat allowed him to climb to the top of the FedEx Cup standings and ninth in the world rankings.

Zalatoris was one under par for his round on Saturday and minus-4 in the tournament standings — four strokes off the lead at this point in the competition — when he hurt his lower back by hitting the third hole.

He received treatment on the course, played the next hole and the pain did not lessen.

” [Will] felt it was best to retire from the BMW Championship and work with his groomer over the next few days to soothe the inflammation. Will is looking forward to playing next week in Atlanta,” Zalatoris manager Allen Hobbs said.

The PGA season wraps up next week with the Tour Championship at East Lake. The 30 players who qualify will then have the chance to win the FedEx Cup and the purse of 18 million US dollars.
