BMW | A dose of electrons for the M5

Like many sports cars these days, the BMW M5 will be entitled to a plug-in hybrid heart to inaugurate its seventh generation, a first for the iconic model launched in 1985.

The midsize sedan still uses a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8, but it will now be supported by a 194-hp electric motor integrated into the eight-speed automatic transmission. The power count thus climbs to 717 hp and torque to 738 lb-ft. That said, pure performance is down: 0-100 km/h is completed in 3.5 seconds, half a second slower than the M5 CS produced in 2022, despite the 90 hp fewer than that previous version.

This is because this new M5 will be heavy, very heavy, at 2445 kg. This is 460 kg more than its predecessor due to the use of a 14.8 kWh battery supposed to ensure a meager autonomy of 40 km.

Moreover, let’s note the use of an all-wheel drive system that has the ability to completely disconnect the front wheels for sportier behavior. Rear-wheel steering, dynamic damping and carbon-ceramic brakes complete the portrait of the chassis of this 2025 M5. On sale at the end of the year at a starting price of $135,000.
