Blues Jays open season with 10-8 win over Rangers

(Toronto) Teoscar Hernández fired a three-run homer then scored the game-winning run for the Toronto Blue Jays, who came from behind to beat the Texas Rangers 10-8 on Friday.

Danny Jansen confirmed the victory for the Queen City team with a home run in the eighth inning. The Blue Jays (1-0) won their home opener, their first since the 2019 season. The Blues Jays played the entire 2020 season and the majority of the 2021 campaign in the United States due to COVID-19.

Blue Jays starter José Berríos gave up four runs in the third inning and walked away with not being involved in the verdict.

Seven relief pitchers have been on the mound for the Blue Jays. Adam Cimber inherited the win while Jordan Romano got the save.

Mitch Garver’s two-run homer gave the Rangers (0-1) a 6-0 lead in the second inning. Brad Miller and Adolis Garcia slammed solo home runs for the visitors.

Jon Gray struck out four batters but allowed three runs in four innings of work for the Rangers. Dennis Santana, one of the Rangers’ four relief pitchers, saw the loss add to his record.
