Blue Jays win first game of doubleheader against White Sox

(Chicago) George Springer and Bo Bichette hit one-run singles in an 11e inning where the Toronto Blue Jays scored six times on Thursday en route to a 6-2 win over the Chicago White Sox.


This match kicked off a doubleheader.

The Jays had only one hit before a breakthrough at the expense of Aaron Bummer (3-2).

With Cavan Biggio as the automatic runner at second base, Danny Jansen started the 11e with a soft hit to third base, for a single.

Springer then broke the deadlock by knocking the ball through the mound.

Bichette, Daulton Varsho and Vladimir Guerrero followed with more one-run singles, then Biggio drove two runners home with a double.

During the Sox’s turn at bat, Oscar Colás slammed a one-run double and scored on a single from Andrew Vaughn.

Jordan Romano (4-4) pitched in 10ethen Thomas Hatch and Yimi Garcia completed the work in 11e sleeve.

Lance Lynn struck out 11 batters in seven innings. He allowed just one hit, a Springer single in the third.

Lynn has 41 strikeouts in his last four outings. The White Sox lost for the fourth time in five games.

José Berríos also allowed one hit in seven innings, having six batters at bat. He allowed a single to Elvis Andrus in the third inning.

Also in third, Springer made a brilliant catch by diving to right field, at the expense of Zach Remillard.

Alejandro Kirk pinned Andrus on a steal attempt at second base in the sixth inning.

Yusei Kikuchi and Jesse Scholtens will be the starting pitchers for Game 2.
