Blue Jays win 6-1 over Los Angeles Angels

Kevin Gausman pitched seven scoreless innings, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit his 10the home run since the All-Star break and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Los Angeles Angels 6-1 on Tuesday night.

Will Wagner continued his strong start in major league baseball with two hits, including a two-run double in the first inning.

Wagner, the son of former All-Star reliever Billy Wagner, has five hits in eight at-bats in his first two games, including three doubles and three RBIs.

Willie Calhoun saved the Angels’ honor with a home run in the ninth.

Gausman (11-8) is 5-0 with a 3.19 ERA since July 11. The right-hander has allowed six hits and two walks in seven innings. He also has struck out five batters.

To explain his recent successes, Gausman speaks of his “control [de la balle]I revolve a lot more around the catch area.”

The Angels had the bases loaded with one out in the second, but Gausman got out by forcing Jo Adell into a double play.

“We did exactly what he wanted us to do,” Angels manager Ron Washington said. “He’s an experienced pitcher and he taught our young guys a lesson.”

Guerrero sent a slider from Angels starter Carson Fulmer into the Blue Jays’ bullpen in left field to make it 4-0 in the third.

Four pitches later, Spencer Horwitz sent a fastball into the right-field stands. It was the second time this season the Blue Jays hit back-to-back home runs.

Guerrero leads the majors with a .464 batting average and 22 extra-base hits since the All-Star break.

Joey Loperfido made it 6-0 in the eighth inning with an RBI single.

George Springer was ejected from the game in the seventh after yelling at referee Manny Gonzalez. Springer had adamantly maintained that he was hit in the right foot by the ball, although video replay official Adrian Johnson ruled otherwise.
