(Toronto) The Toronto Blue Jays have traded outfielder Teoscar Hernandez to the Seattle Mariners for pitchers Erik Swanson and Adam Macko.
The 30-year-old Hernandez posted a .267 batting average in 2022, with 25 home runs and 77 RBIs.
Hernandez spent six seasons in Toronto and won the Silver Rod in 2020 and 2021. He was a finalist for that honor in 2022.
The Silver Stick is awarded to the top offensive players at each position in the American League and National League.
Hernandez also represented the Blue Jays in the 2021 All-Star Game.
Hernandez still has a year left on his contract, which will earn him a salary of US$10.65 million next season. He could become a free agent at the end of the 2023 season.
Swanson, a 29-year-old right-hander, played 57 games with the Mariners last year. He went 3-2 with a 1.68 ERA.
As for Macko, a 21-year-old pitcher from Slovakia, he spent the 2022 season at A level.
