Blue Jays | Prospect Brandon Barriera underwent elbow ligament reconstruction

(Toronto) Toronto Blue Jays prospect Brandon Barriera underwent hybrid elbow surgery, which included ligament reconstruction.

The procedure performed on the pitcher’s left elbow will keep him sidelined for 12 to 18 months.

Nate Heisler, Barriera’s agent, made the announcement on his social media Monday and Jays manager John Schneider confirmed it.

Barriera was the Blue Jays’ first-round pick in the 2022 draft.

The 20-year-old Gunner pitched just 1 1/3 innings in his only A-level start for the Jays this spring. In two seasons in the Toronto club’s affiliate network, Barriera has pitched 21 and two-thirds innings spread over eight starts. He had a 4.57 ERA and struck out 26 batters.
