Blue Jays overtake Orioles on Matt Chapman’s two home runs

(Toronto) Matt Chapman hit a solo home run and another with a teammate on the trails to propel the Toronto Blue Jays to a 6-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night.

George Springer added a long three-run in the fifth inning, which allowed the Blue Jays (82-63) to erase a one-run deficit and take a 4-2 lead.

In the win, Bo Bichette hit a hit for the ninth straight game.

Reliever Trevor Richards opened for the Blue Jays and struck out all three batters he faced in the first inning.

Julian Merryweather followed and shut out the Orioles for two innings, before Yusei Kikuchi (5-7) took over and gave up two runs in two innings.

Tim Mayza, Adam Cimber and Anthony Bass gave up no runs until the ninth inning, when Yimi Garcia allowed a run.

Adley Rutschman hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning for the Orioles (75-68), giving them a 2-1 lead.

Gunnar Henderson scored the Orioles’ other run with a home run after two outs in the ninth inning.

Jordan Lyles (10-11) had four runs and five hits in five innings. Joey Krehbiel conceded the other two points.

Chapman broke the 0-0 tie with his 25e circuit of the season, and his first since August 20, in the second round. His second home run came in sixth gear, while Bichette was out on the trails.
