Manager Charlie Montoyo’s team had enjoyed victory after the first game, but lost their flag in the second duel against the Michigan team.
In today’s matchup, starting pitcher Ross Stripling (3-1) was dominant. The 32-year-old right-hander has given up just one safe strike in six innings on the mound. He also passed four rivals in the mitt.
In relief, Yimi Garcia, Trent Thornton and Jordan Romano continued Stripling’s success. The Tigers added just one hit during those three gunners’ run to the mound.
Offensively, the Blue Jays took advantage of a 421-foot long ball from Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to open the scoring in the fourth inning. The first baseman expelled the ball out of bounds while his teammate Bo Bichette was already on the trails.
Before the end of the Jays’ fourth round at bat, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Cavan Biggio hit doubles and extended their lead to 4-0.
The first of those two batters returned in the eighth inning. Gurriel Jr. hit a single that sent Alejandro Kirk and Santiago Espinal home.
The Blue Jays return to action on Monday, when the Baltimore Orioles visit Rogers Center for the first game of a three-game series.
