Blue Jays lose 9-5 to Kansas City Royals

(Kansas City) Brady Singer pitched five innings, MJ Melendez hit a two-run homer and the Kansas City Royals beat the Toronto Blue Jays 9-5 on Monday night for their first win of the season.


Nicky Lopez hit a two-run triple and Bobby Witt Jr. hit two singles, adding a run each, as the Royals took a 7-0 lead in the fourth inning.

Singer (1-0) allowed only two hits, two doubles by Matt Chapman, three walks and three strikeouts. He is 7-0 with a 1.68 ERA in his last 10 starts at Kauffman Stadium since June 26 last year.

The Blue Jays charged again in the fifth inning, with a double and a pair of walks, but Singer limited the damage with a double play that earned a run.
