Blue Jays bring back Kevin Kiermaier for one season

(Toronto) The Toronto Blue Jays signed center fielder Kevin Kiermaier to a one-year, $10.5 million contract on Thursday.

Kiermaier got his hands on the Gold Glove at his position at the end of his first season with the Toronto team this year. It was his fourth career. The 33-year-old will find Daulton Varsho and George Springer in the outfield.

Offensively, he hit .265 with eight home runs and 36 RBIs.

Kiermaier played 10 seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays after being drafted by the Florida club in 2010. He agreed to a one-year, $9 million deal with the Blue Jays last winter.

This is the first major announcement for the Blue Jays since the start of the off-season. They had tried to attract star Shohei Ohtani, who instead decided to sign a 10-year, US700 million pact with the Los Angeles Dodgers earlier this month.
