(Toronto) A pioneer of architecture and urban planning in Canada, Blanche Lemco van Ginkel, died on October 20 at the age of 98 in Toronto, where she had lived for several decades.

She is survived by her two children and a grandson.
Born in London, Mme Lemco van Ginkel studied after arriving in North America at McGill University and Harvard University, USA.
During her career, she has taken part in a large number of development projects in Canada, notably at the Port of Montreal and in the historic sector of Old Montreal. She was also a member of the planning team for Expo 67 in Montreal.
Blanche Lemco van Ginkel was a founding member of the Ordre des urbanistes du Québec, which established the Blanche Lemco van Ginkel Prize in her honour.
She has also taught for more than 30 years at the University of Montreal, McGill University, the University of Toronto as well as in the United States.
She was admitted to the Order of Canada in 2000 and has received numerous professional and academic awards and recognitions during her life.
At the request of Blanche Lemco van Ginkel, no funeral ceremony will take place.
