Blaise Matuidi announces the end of his career

(Paris) Footballer Blaise Matuidi, 2018 world champion with the France team, announced the end of his professional career on Friday in a video posted on YouTube.

“I have decided to end my career as a professional footballer,” said the 35-year-old former midfielder.

He had not played for more than a year with Inter Miami, his last club, which had removed him from its list of players for the 2022 season of MLS, the North American championship.

Indisputable holder of the French team during the 2018 world title obtained in Russia, Matuidi successively won at Troyes, Saint-Étienne, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus Turin, obtaining five French champion titles and three titles of Italian champion. He is also a finalist for Euro-2016 with the Blues.

“I had the chance to play in the biggest European clubs, to wear the jersey of the national team, to make my family vibrate, to live from my passion and these are images that will remain with me”, explained the French international, author of nine goals in 84 caps with the France team.

The left-handed midfielder, appreciated for his volume of play and his catchy temperament, had come to support the French team in recent days at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
