It’s 1996, the cell phone and the internet exist, and yet it’s impossible to send an email on the go.
Well, not for long, because Mike Lazaridis (Jay Baruchel) and his partner and best friend Douglas Fregin (Matt Johnson) are about to create the world’s first smart phone with the help of businessman Jim Balsillie. (Glenn Howerton).
The film BlackBerry, whose trailer is unveiled on Wednesday, chronicles the spectacular rise – and catastrophic fall – of the iconic keypad phone. It was presented at the Berlinale last February. Directed by Matt Johnson, the film is based on the book Losing the Signal by Jacquie McNish and Sean Silcof, released in 2015. BlackBerry hits theaters May 12.
