Björk announces new album

Not too affected by the pandemic, which was not devastating in Iceland, Björk took the time to live and concoct a new album, her tenth. Fossora — “grave” — is due out this fall.

Returning to Reykjavik in 2018, Björk experienced the mourning of her mother and the departure from home of her youngest child, her daughter Isadora, she said in an interview with the Guardian. Which brought her back to a seemingly more “earthly” music, while these last two discs had been deeply marked by her separation from the American artist Matthew Barney.

Fossora has something “natural and spacious”, “warm”, “more rooted than dreamy”, writes The Guardian. Which doesn’t mean that the album will necessarily be a charm for the ear: Björk still refuses to give in to easy melodies, notices the everyday, but embraces virtuosity, complexity and—we’re not surprised—the outbursts of violence.

Since Björk was holding dance parties at her house during the confinement – yes, there, it was allowed – the rumor circulated apparently that her next disc would be very rave. Which is greatly exaggerated, note The Guardian. Fossora is due out in the fall on the One Little Indian label at an undetermined date.
