Coastal erosion: Biscarosse attempts to replenish its beach
(France 2)
The beaches have been eaten away by erosion in Biscarrosse (Landes). Access was even prohibited for security reasons.
The ballet of dump trucks started on Saturday March 9 on the beach of Biscarrosse (Landes). They take advantage of low tide to resilt the beach and consolidate the dune. Winter storms and strong tides have eaten away at the coastline. It moved back about ten meters. The beach has subsided five meters. Resurfacing has been essential for the municipality since 2018.
A practice that questions some local residents
While this is the fifth time that the town of Biscarrosse has used this process, local residents are questioning this practice. “It’s useful, it allows you to stabilize, to wait, but with the next gust of wind, everything will be gone again”, insists a resident. The Landes commune is not the only one affected by this phenomenon. Many coastal towns are also affected by coastal erosion.
