Bipolar disorders, depression, anorexia, burn out…: how to better take mental health into account?

Update

The mental health of French men and women is still degraded in 2023 according to a report from Public Health France. How can we better take care of our mental health? This is the subject of the Talk on Monday October 17.

Ludovic Pauchant receives Christelle Tissot, founder of Musae, a societal media that de-dramatizes and democratizes mental health, Mickaël Worms-Erhmingerresearcher and teacher in public health, producer of the podcast Les Maux Bleus as well as Maud Cleryneuro-psychologist at the Albert Chenevier hospital.

Young people particularly affected

In its report, the health agency emphasizes that use of emergency care for mood disorders, suicidal ideas and gestures has increased significantly since 2021. According to Public Health France, “the increase has even continued markedly in 2023” among young people aged 18-24. In addition, in September 2023, visits to emergency rooms for gestures, suicidal thoughts and anxiety disorders increased among those under 18 years old.

This notable use of the emergency psychological and psychiatric care service does not seem to be accompanied by real regular care. If, still according to Public Health France, eBetween May and September 2022, more than 7 in 10 people (74%) said they take care of their mental health, young people aged 18-24 are on average less concerned about their mental health or well-being than their elders (64%). The main obstacles to consulting a psychologist are the price of consultations but also a certain taboo and a fear of judgment from those around people likely to need this type of support.
