Asian hornets have become a real scourge in France, especially with a rather mild autumn. There are nests in almost all departments. The hornet is potentially dangerous to humans.

In a house in Beauvais (Oise), Jean-Hugues Dupont fights hornets. The species is present everywhere in his garden so he installed traps that he made himself. Arrived in France in 2004, the Asian hornets have progressed throughout the territory and are now spreading in Europe. It’s a disaster for the bees. In Coupvray (Seine-et-Marne), around sixty hives were decimated. Dozens of invaders are present around each hive.

Usually the hornets are rarer in the fall, but not this year. “It was milder in October. Usually, at the end of September, the hornets disappear because of the cold and there, the climate allowed them to be able to continue their predation”, explains Rémi Martin, beekeeper. The proliferation will even be exponential this summer.
