A whale was stranded on the beach of Sangatte, in Calais, on the night of November 6 to 7. This is the third time this has happened this year. The phenomenon is more and more frequent whereas whales usually evolve in the depths of the oceans.

Monday, November 7, a beaked whale washed up on a beach in Sangatte (Pas-de-Calais) was still breathing. His wounds, superficial, are not involved in the death. The cetacean was exhausted, crushed by its own weight on the sand. It weighs about 8 tons for 7.44 meters. Every minute out of the sea reduced his chances. They geolocate themselves with radar systems. Afterwards, is there a disturbance of these systems?asks Jean-Michel Charpentier, volunteer of the Animal Protection League

This type of grounding has multiplied on the coast. In February, a humpback whale was found dead near Calais. The autopsy revealed that his stomach was empty. In November 2021, there was the same scene with a whale stranded in the port of Calais. The corpse of the beaked whale drifts towards the port of Calais. It could run aground a little further or sink to the seabed.
