Billie Jean King Cup | The Americans beat the Poles

(Glasgow) Coco Gauff and Caty McNally beat Magda Linette and Alicja Rosolska in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 to give the United States a 2-1 win over Poland on Wednesday at the Billie Jean King Cup.

Earlier in the day, Linette had defeated Madison Keys 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 in singles action to force a decisive doubles duel. Danielle Collins gave the Americans a 1-0 lead following a 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (2) win over Magdalena French.

This tournament was formerly called the Fed Cup and is the most important team event in women’s tennis.

The Americans rested their best player, Gauff, for the singles after she competed in the WTA Finals last week.

Spain, Switzerland and Slovakia also signed a victory on Wednesday.

Paula Badosa confirmed the victory for the Spaniards when she defeated Kazakh Elena Rybakina 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.

Switzerland swept Italy 3-0 as Jil Teichmann and Belinda Bencic won their singles match. They then teamed up to triumph in doubles.

Viktoria Kuzmova and Anna Karolina Schmiedlova provided the wins for Slovakia, who beat Belgium 2-1.

This competition includes 12 teams and they are divided into four groups of three. Each match consists of two singles matches and one doubles match.

The winning teams from each group advance to the semi-finals on Saturday, and the final will take place on Sunday.
