Billel Benhamouda (24): Death of the Algerian international in horrible circumstances

This is news that affects all sports fans and Algerian football in particular. Promise of his country, the young Billel Benhamouda died last week, after a match with the A’ selection of the Fennecs, the Algerian national team. It is a real tragedy for a whole country since the young man was only 24 years old and played as a midfielder for the USM Algiers club, one of the best teams in the country.

On June 9, Billel Benhamouda participated in a match with the Algerian team against the Democratic Republic of Congo and the latter even shined, scoring a goal from the penalty spot for a 3-0 victory for the Fennecs. Unfortunately, on the way back, the young footballer will find death in a terrible car accident. The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) made the announcement the next day in a press release: “It is with sadness and compassion that the Algerian Football Federation and the local Algerian team learned of the death of player Billel Benhamouda following an accident that occurred on Thursday night”indicates the FAF.

The terrible news came as Algeria and Billel Benhamouda contested the Four Nations Tournament, which also features Senegal and Niger. The FAF decided to simply cancel the tournament after the tragedy. “At the announcement of this painful news, (…) all the members of the FAF would like to send their sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.”adds the federation in its press release.
