Bill Morneau, 60, served as Canada’s finance minister and member of parliament from 2015 to 2020.
From 1990 to 2015, he led the firm Morneau Shepell, a provider of human resources and pension services which changed its name to LifeWorks last year before its acquisition by Telus earlier this year for 2, 3 billions.
Morneau Shepell was founded in 1966 by Frank Morneau, father of Bill Morneau. The firm had made several acquisitions over the years and had been listed on the stock exchange since 2005.
Bill Morneau was blamed last year by the Ethics Commissioner for violating the Conflict of Interest Act in connection with the controversy surrounding the awarding of a contract without a call for tenders to the organization WE Charity (UNITED Movement, in French).
The former nation’s big moneymaker served as chairman of the board of trustees of the CD Howe Institute, an economic research body, from 2010 to 2014.
