Biden v. Trump take 2: it will be hell, get ready!

As the 2024 presidential campaign approaches, I feel like approximately 2/3 of Americans: I would like to analyze a duel involving two other candidates.

The first confrontation opposed a candidate unworthy of the function and another who was tolerated in the mistaken belief that he would bow out after one term.

Will Hurd is right.

In November 2019, I introduced you to a Republican representative from Texas who, disillusioned, was trying to shake up his political party.

I was disappointed that Hurd would leave the political arena in 2020 rather than fight to bring some balance back to the GOP. To me, he embodies the renewal that Republicans need.

If I speak to you about this talented young politician today, it is because it is from him that I borrow the title that tops my text. Guest on the show Meet the press from the NBC network, he had an interesting formula to sum up what a Biden v. Trump take 2: “rematch from hell”.

To avoid ending up with the same candidates, while encouraging the next generation, Hurd suggests boosting participation in the primaries. He estimates that only 23% of his fellow citizens take part in the exercise aimed at determining the candidates of the two parties.

Outdated visions, division and lack of enthusiasm

The betting isn’t done yet, but the most likely scenario is a second Trump v. Biden. Among the Republicans, it is impossible to ignore the fervor of the supporters of 45e president.

We would like to take a turn and look to the future, but the party is now hostage to the monster it has created.

Forward-looking, narcissistic and unapologetic about appealing to the worst in human nature, the poll leader is intimidating to any opponent who dares to challenge him in the primaries.

Among the Democrats, no major player has dared to challenge the outgoing president. If we hoped for a while that he would confirm that he would only serve one term, we are now sticking together despite the murmurs of the more progressive faction.

I don’t know about you, but if your leader does not arouse enthusiasm, if he is content to represent the option of the lesser evil and if at each of his speeches you shudder at the idea that he stumbles or out of his text, I believe that I would have difficulty finding the energy necessary to take up the torch and bring out the voters.

Whether in the presidency or vice-presidency, the Democrats desperately need a stimulating succession. For their part, Republicans should find the courage to sideline the Trumpists to encourage candidates like William Hurd.

As Biden will not be dislodged and the courts cannot be relied upon to dismiss Trump, Americans seem destined for the hell Hurd evoked.
