The company says it is trying to move the first phase of production from the Saskatchewan mine to 2026.
When BHP announced last year that it was moving forward with the project, it said it would not be operational until 2027.
However, in an operational review released on Tuesday, the company says the project is on track and it is trying to start production ahead of its original schedule.
BHP also said it was evaluating its options for accelerating the second stage of the project.
The Jansen mine, located about 140 kilometers east of Saskatoon, is expected to produce about 4.35 million tonnes of potash per year, with potential for further expansion.
