“Beyond announcements, we need above all actions”, reacted Thursday January 18 on franceinfo Stéphane Troussel, socialist president of the Seine-Saint-Denis department after the visit of the Head of State and the new Minister of Culture to the department.

Emmanuel Macron and Rachida Dati went to the Ateliers Médicis located in Clichy-sous-Bois and Montfermeil for an exchange with young people on “emancipation through culture”. A roadmap entrusted to Rachida Dati who must “give better access to culture and make it a lever for equal opportunities”. “Culture is a lever of emancipation to fight against inequalities, I say mean”declared Stéphane Troussel.

“The State will have to support local authorities”

“There are going to be Olympic and Paralympic Games in our department of Seine-Saint-Denis, if we want it to be a big popular celebration, it’s a good way to bring people together. I’m waiting for action, our communities are doing a lot, the State must do more. This is what I came to hope during this visit”adds Stéphane Troussel.

“Once the flame is extinguished, the State will have to take over the Games organizing committee alongside local authorities.”

Emmanuel Macron wishes “open access to culture” around the Olympic Games, with a range of theatre, music and even cinema on offer “completely free” during the “two months of summer” 2024. “It’s a good idea but the State will have to support local authorities. This is a subject that we will have to deal with after the Olympic Games, if we want the Olympic Games to be not just a moment but a lever for do more sport, more culture, more inclusion in society”commented the president of the Seine-Saint-Denis department.
