Treatment for bronchiolitis is effective according to two studies by Santé Publique France. In particular, it made it possible to avoid a quarter of hospitalizations for babies suffering from this respiratory virus.

250,000 infants received preventative treatment for bronchiolitis for the first time this year. Beyfortus, a monoclonal antibody, has proven its effectiveness. According to Santé Publique France, it allowed a 23% reduction in the total number of hospitalizations. With this treatment, “Most babies will have attenuated bronchiolitis, that’s what we saw this winter. And as a result, we were able to treat them using simple means”relates pediatrician Edwige Antier.

600,000 doses for next winter

Very contagious, bronchiolitis affects many infants each winter. Although the risk of hospitalization and death remains low, infection can be very serious. The prevention campaign launched last September was a victim of its success. Due to a lack of sufficient stocks, the drug was reserved for maternity hospitals and the most fragile children. The High Health Authority has already ordered 600,000 doses for next winter.
