Will bronchiolitis, this bronchial disease that affects babies and fills emergency departments, disappear? Since Friday September 15, a new treatment has been available: Beyfortus. A vaccine could also emerge within a year.
Avoiding the hospitalization each winter of thousands of babies suffering from severe bronchiolitis: this is the objective of a new drug, Beyfortus. This disease affects 500,000 babies each year. At two months, Maxime was part of the Beyfortus clinical study. Result: he had nothing during the winter.
Strong protection against serious forms
From the morning of Friday September 15, all pharmacies can order Beyfortus, prescribed by a doctor for babies under one year old. A single injection of this monoclonal antibody offers 83% protection against severe forms. Last year, the bronchiolitis epidemic began in October, affecting more than 73,000 infants. Nearly one in three babies had to be hospitalized for severe illness.
