Thefts on the highway are increasing at the Spanish border. Not very vigilant motorists have their belongings stolen when they stop on the side of the road. A so-called “Peruvian” method well known to certain police officers.
The process is well established. A vehicle signals for you to stop on the highway, a passenger gets out and shows you a problem outside your car. Meanwhile, his accomplice steals the bags inside and leaves. The flight lasted less than thirty seconds. The scene is common on this Spanish highway linking Barcelona to France. A couple from Ardèche was the target of these criminals two years ago. They stopped on the hard shoulder.
“We had a little dog in the car who started barking”, remembers the retiree. By barking, their dog saved their belongings. On a motorway rest area near the Spanish border, many French tourists discover this procedure called the “Peruvian method”. If for the moment, French roads seem to be preserved, this phenomenon seems well known to a police union.
