Tipatshimushtunan, a title which means “Tell us”, allows the musician to ask his ancestors how the Innu lived in the past. The song, where Innu, Naskapi and French meet, was produced by Louis-Jean Cormier. The short film was directed by Jean-Vital Joliat. Matiu attempts to “capture the realities experienced in residential schools”, while presenting “a glimpse of his life in Maliotenam, an Innu community on the North Shore”. Tipatshimushtunan will be offered on all platforms from 1er July, Matiu wishing to take advantage of Canada Day to get his message across.
