“My place will not be in the La France Insoumise group if I am ever elected”clarified François Ruffin this morning. The outgoing deputy of the Somme and candidate of the New Popular Front for re-election is announcing his divorce from LFI: he announced on Thursday July 4 that in the event of victory on Sunday, he will not sit with his former group in the National Assembly.

This dramatic divorce between François Ruffin and La France Insoumise has been brewing for months. It is now a done deal: it is the outcome of a drama in several acts. The very last one was played out on Thursday at noon: the outgoing deputy of the Somme speaks of Jean-Luc Mélenchon as a “cannonball” and one “obstacle to voting”. François Ruffin adds: “In popular provincial lands, it’s blocked”.

For a long time, the Picard has been trying to shape a stature opposite to the thunderous rebellious leader. In 2022, he already claimed that he no longer wanted to shout on the benches of the National Assembly. On the side of La France insoumise, we are therefore talking about a “non-event”“. “It is not his work in the Chamber that we will miss“, tackles a person close to the management. A few days ago, a pillar of the movement was already grumbling: “Ruffin is no longer a rebellious deputy for us”.

For now, the Picard must first be re-elected on Sunday in the first constituency of the Somme. In the first round, he is in an unfavorable position with 34% of the votes cast, facing the National Rally in the lead. The transfer of votes for the candidate of the presidential majority will decide the fate of the election on Sunday, July 7.

Before the fracas of the dissolution, François Ruffin was working on an alliance of left-wing unionists with socialists, environmentalists, communists and rebel rebels. Alexis Corbière, Danielle Simonnet and Clémentine Autain do not hide their closeness to François Ruffin. But their alliance is too weak to form a group: a minimum of 15 deputies is required.

Salvation may come from the other parties of the New Popular Front. On the environmental side, Ruffin is spoken of as a figure of the left. “With Fabien Roussel, they are in the same niche”rejoices a communist executive.
