between economic thriller and social cinema, a generous and positive film

Director dedicated to social causes, Gilles Perret gives substance to the fight of a quartet of friends united to save their company, in Takeover, on screens Wednesday, October 19. The director has the talent to set his scene, set in the splendid landscapes of Haute-Savoie, with endearing roles and a gripping story.

Employed in a precision mechanics factory in Haute-Savoie, Cédric learns that the company is going to be bought by a British pension fund. Determined not to let it go down the drain in the hands of detached speculators, Cédric gathers around him three childhood friends to buy it back. They then pretend to be financial agents in order to win the bet.

Gilles Perret acts a bit like Alfred Hitchcock, when he takes his heroes on adventures that go beyond them, since he takes his characters into administrative and financial meanders of which they know nothing. He thus injects a suspense which makes the salt of Takeover : will they achieve their goals? The economic and financial world has carved out a good share of cinema since Wall Street Where Margin Call. But Gilles Perret colors it in Takeover of a human dimension.

In the role of Cédric, Pierre Deladonchamps has a lot to do with it, in the communicative conviction that carries his interpretation. At his side, Laetitia Dosch, Grégory Montel and Vincent Deniard do not play the followers, but cross a range of doubts and hesitations which feed the subject. Without forgetting Finnegan Oldfield who brings a disturbing ambiguity.

Gilles Perret explores a new facet of his favorite subject, which he declines by equating the economic and the human. His dramaturgy balances psychology and action. He does not neglect a part of pedagogy to make accessible to all an unconventional universe, but without gravity and with energy. It results in a film involving by its intrigue and touching by its characters.
