Between 6,000 and 7,000 people came to attend Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s meeting, organized in Montpellier, at the Arena Sud de France, this Sunday, February 13, 2022. For 30 minutes, the leader of the Insoumis repeated that his iron of lance is the fight against economic inequalities. He then presented his flagship measures. Like he usually does, the presidential candidate played with humor and irony to capture his audienceincluding many young people, some of whom have never voted in a presidential election before.
A show against the rich
At the start of the meeting, a dozen members of the movement’s “Country Parliament” took the floor to introduce themselves and explain why they find themselves in this movement. Among them in particular: the yellow vest Geneviève Legay, environmental activists, an independent journalist, a CGT trade unionist or even an anti-pass nurse.

Then Jean-Luc Mélenchon was welcomed with fervor. The candidate for the presidential election unrolled, for half an hour, what constitutes the base of his program: the fight against economic inequalities. He chained the figures and the comparisons. “Every time you are told ‘where does your Mélenchon find all this money? Is it magic money?’ When they tell you ‘it can’t go on like this. The State deficit must be reduced…’. It is you, the powerful ones, who are going to fill it!“
The main measures
Jean-Luc Mélenchon then presented some measures of his program: retirement at age 60, an allowance of 1,063 euros for students, the minimum wage at 1,400 euros net. He explained that he wanted to invest 200 billion euros in ecological transition and invest in hospitals (hiring and stopping bed closures) and in education.
