Canadian rapper Drake is the artist with the most nominations for the BET Awards, closely followed by Nicki Minaj.
In view of the gala of the American channel Black Entertainment Television (BET), on June 30 in Los Angeles, the Canadian rapper received seven nominations Thursday, including that of album of the year for his eighth studio album, For All the Dogs. He is also a finalist for the music video for First Person Shooterhis collaboration with J. Cole which may have been the catalyst for his recent conflict with American rapper Kendrick Lamar.
Micki Minaj received six nominations, including Album of the Year for her highly anticipated release of Pink Friday 2. Two of his nominations were for his song with Ice Spice, Barbie Worldwhich is part of the soundtrack of the hit film barbie.
Victoria Monét, one of several artists to receive five nominations, is scheduled to perform at the gala show on June 30.
Beyoncé received four nominations, including Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, as well as recognition for two tracks from her album Cowboy Carter : Texas Hold’Em And 16 Carriages. His collaboration with Lamar, America Has a Problem (Remix)rivals songs from Minaj, Usher, Cardi B and Drake.
Rich Baby Daddyby Drake, which features SZA and Sexyy Red, is up for best collaboration and two other awards.
The BET Awards extend beyond music: they also reward personalities from cinema and sports. RenaissanceBeyoncé’s tour film, released in theaters late last year, is also a finalist in the best picture category.
Most recent Super Bowl headliner Usher is among artists up for four awards, alongside 21 Savage, Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat and Tyla, who took home the top prize for Best African Musical Performance at the Grammy Awards.
J. Cole, Sexyy Red and SZA join best new artist Grammy winner Monét with five nominations each.
Sexyy Red will also perform during the show, as will Muni Long, Latto, Glorilla and Shaboozey.
The films nominated this year are American fiction, Bob Marley: One Love, Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé, Spider-Man: Through the Spider-Verse, The Book of Clarence, The color purple, The Vigilante 3 And The little Mermaid.
The BET Awards primarily recognize Afro-descendant personalities in various entertainment sectors. Simone Biles, Naomi Asaka, Steph Curry, Lebron James and Patrick Mahomes are among the sports stars vying for BET awards.
