Best brands | BMW still at the top, according to Consumer Reports

Which brand makes the best vehicles? This question, as vague as it may be, is imbued with subjectivity, as the criteria are numerous and vary in importance. This year again, the American magazine Consumer Reports attempted to draw up a ranking based on the immense amount of data collected both on the road and from its members.

It is BMW which, for the second year in a row, sits at the top of the ranking, still closely followed by Subaru in second place. These two manufacturers are represented among the most recommended vehicles of 2024 by the BMW X5, the Subaru Crosstrek and the Subaru Forester. Porsche completes the podium, up considerably by 11 places.

To support its argument, the non-profit organization cross-referenced data relating to road test evaluations as well as the reliability of the models as well as the satisfaction of their owners and their safety scores.

Among the biggest losers was Dodge, which slipped 10 positions this year (25e), and the Hyundai group’s luxury brand, Genesis, which ranks 8 places lower than in 2023 (15e). The bottom of the rankings is occupied respectively by Jaguar, Land Rover and Jeep which have essentially exchanged places when compared to last year.

Note also that Toyota, which occupies ninth place, is the manufacturer most represented within the select club of the most recommended vehicles this year with four models out of ten: Prius, Camry hybrid, RAV4 Prime and Highlander hybrid. The Tesla Model Y is also the only electric model on this list, reflecting the shaky reliability of some electric models.
