Bertrand Rioux, director of the rugby section of the ASM and director of the training center
Bertrand Rioux arrived at the age of 20. Today is his 40th season at ASM. Rugby player, he was recruited by Michel ringeval, trainer from the years 78 to 87.
Rugby and passion mean that 40 years later, Bertrand Rioux is still at the club.
The evolution of high level rugby
We have been able to become much more rigorous, much more hardworking than when I was a player myself.
For Bertrand Rioux, the most significant development is 1995 with the transition to professionalism.
“I was one of those players there, at the old school. We played rugby. It was our passion, indeed, but we had a job elsewhere, and we trained in the evening and we were very busy.
With professionalism, the rules have changed, player investment has changed and of course, the economic benefits too.
1995 therefore marks the big change in rugby.

The place of rugby at ASM Omnisports, according to Bertrand Rioux.
“It is one of the flagship poles, it is the high level, the training center. It is also the activity which receives the most media coverage and is also the one where there is the most, I would like to say, of innovations and research. But the club is also everything else on the side. And it is also an unconditional support of the rugby activity, ASM Omnisports, the exchanges that we can have and the other sections … it’s magnificent. “
Preparation of rugby players for ASM Omnisports
a High Tech training center was created 4 years ago. The young people are practically in the same training conditions as the pros.
The club has 3 physical trainers and 1 mental trainer. The young people have a school, university, professional training.
Bertrand Rioux’s role is to ensure that they can combine everything, their studies and their sports practice.
The greatest memory of Bertrand Rioux
“I am a rugby player. the month of May 2010, _with the first shield brought back to Place de Jaude_, corn after brought back here to the sport ceremony for the club’s centenary, it is sporting moments that I will not relive. It was the first time and the first time in something, we know that we will experience it only once. And it was really a huge happiness.
