Berri-UQAM | Seriously injured man found unconscious

(Montreal) A man is in critical condition after being injured in the upper body following a serious assault on Sunday evening at the Berri-UQAM metro station, located in downtown Montreal.

Around 6:30 p.m., several calls were made to 9-1-1 about an unconscious person, lying on the ground and injured in the upper body at the Berri-UQAM metro station.

“Upon arriving at the scene, the police assisted a man in his fifties. He was quickly transported to a hospital center,” said Jeanne Drouin, spokesperson for the Montreal City Police Service (SPVM).

The man was still unconscious when he was taken to hospital. We fear for our lives.

According to the SPVM, a suspect aged between 20 and 30 years old “tripped the victim who fell to the ground”. The police do not have any further information on the circumstances leading to this serious assault.

The suspect reportedly fled before the police arrived.

A perimeter was erected while investigators and forensic identification technicians analyzed the scene to try to clarify the circumstances surrounding this event.

The Place Dupuis entrance to the Berri-UQAM station is inaccessible to the public since the area is part of the perimeter set up by the SPVM.

Currently, police are trying to gather information via surveillance cameras and eyewitness accounts. Anyone with information about this event is asked to call 9-1-1.
