Sometimes there are extraordinary destinies and Bernard Laporte is one of his men who have known it all and yet, all of this could never have happened. A former rugby player, he revealed himself as a high-level coach through the Stade Français, RC Toulon, but above all the France team. Alongside this, he dabbled in politics by being Secretary of State for Sports in the government of François Fillon. Today president of the FFR, he is the strong man of French rugby.
An incredible career and life for someone who has recently been harassed by the law. Guest of the show At Jordan’shosted by Jordan de Luxe, Bernard Laporte nevertheless explained that all this could well never have happened because of a day in July in 1985, the day of his “liberation from the army”. After a drunken evening, Vincent Moscato’s great friend takes the road to the town where he grew up, Gaillac, to find friends. “We thought we were going to meet again, spend two or three days together and celebrate. Unfortunately, I didn’t make it because an hour later I fell asleep and took myself a plane tree. I was kicked out of the car”he recalls.
It’s like he stabbed me
A terrible accident for this close friend of Christophe Dominici, who will then pass very close to the worst. If he considers himself “resurrected” today, Bernard Laporte was plunged into a coma following this road accident. However, despite being lucky to have escaped, the former coach receives the worst news for him when he wakes up, his rugby career is in jeopardy. “It’s as if he had stabbed me”he remembers when the doctor told him that.
By dint of courage and determination, Bernard Laporte will still manage to come back to practice the sport he loves. “I was incredibly lucky since ten months later, I was able to play, practice the sport I loved”he concludes.
