In the heart of Béarn in Igon Bernard Ladagnous, a passionate beekeeper engaged in the fight against the programmed disappearance of bees has created his honey under the name “Miel de Noùste”. In his honey house in the discreet but charming village of Igon, a stone’s throw from what was the residence of the Count of Saint-Cricq, Bernard Ladagnous takes great care of his residents whose existence is counted in days (one month in principle) leaving to the queen the happiness of living almost four years, pampered by her fellow creatures and jealously protected by squads of guardians.
A beekeeper worried about the survival of bees
Like all professionals, Bernard Ladagnous is aware of the drama unfolding. However, he must continue the task and strive to improve the comfort of the bees. In particular, during the transport of the hives to the appropriate sites – a perimeter of around thirty kilometers – where the plants grow, the flowers of which are foraged and by interposed pollen, the result of an extraordinary alchemy, which will communicate the specific flavors of the lime tree to the acacia through the heather, the chestnut and these spring flowers without forgetting the heather with its beautiful purple-colored flowering. The beekeeper jealously watches over the health of the bees until the precious nectar is put in a jar after the multiple stages of transformation including the recovery of the frames in the hives before uncapping them by removing the film of wax which obstructs the cells and allow honey to flow after its extraction before the maturation at the end of which the honey will be ready. From this magical alchemy, in addition to honey, substances with often unsuspected virtues will be marketed: from fresh or dry pollen to propolis via the enigmatic royal jelly.
