Bernard Drainville will be a candidate for the CAQ

Bernard Drainville will run under the banner of the Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ) in the next provincial election this fall.

He therefore left his post as host at 98.5 FM to return to politics. Mr. Drainville, who had hosted the noon show for six years, reportedly tendered his resignation to his employers on Thursday evening.

The duty was able to confirm the announcement which had first been made on Friday morning by Paul Arcand, the host of the morning show at 98.5 FM.

Mr. Drainville, a former minister in a Parti Québécois (PQ) government and father of the controversial Charter of Values, will be a candidate in a riding in the Québec region.

Bernard Drainville, who lives in the Quebec region, will be 59 next week.

After a career as a journalist from 1989 to 2007, he was elected four times PQ MP for Marie-Victorin, in Montérégie, from 2007 to 2014.

He was Minister responsible for Democratic Institutions and Citizen Participation from September 2012 to April 2014 and parliamentary leader of the official opposition from September 2015 to June 2016; it was there that he left politics.
