Berlusconi brought this legendary team back to life

Silvio Berlusconi was a politician and a businessman, but he also played a role in the Italian sports world.

It was as owner of AC Milan that he left his mark on the world of football.

Originally from Milan, Berlusconi came to the rescue of his favorite club by buying it in 1986, which enabled the club to get out of serious financial difficulties.

He will have finally seen the destinies of the legendary club for 31 years, until he sold it in 2017.

Hit

During Berlusconi’s reign as owner, AC Milan enjoyed tremendous success winning 29 trophies.

The team has won five European Supercups (1989, 1990, 1994, 2003, 2007) and eight Italian championships (1988, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1999, 2004, 2011).

And above all, AC has won five Champions League titles (1989, 1990, 1994, 2003, 2007) in addition to being a finalist three times.

Through significant investments, Berlusconi has therefore accomplished his mission, which was to transform the club of his youth into a world-class institution.

Sadness

AC Milan obviously reacted to Berlusconi’s death by issuing a press release.

“Deeply saddened, AC Milan mourns the passing of the unforgettable Silvio Berlusconi […]. Tomorrow, we will dream of new ambitions, we will launch new challenges and set out to conquer new victories that will represent the good, the strong and the true anchored in all of us who have shared this adventure before linking and dedicating our lives to a dream. called Milano. Thank you Mr President. Always with us.”

That said, AC Milan was not the only sporting property of Berlusconi since more recently he acquired by his company Fininvest in 2018 Societa Sportiva Monza 1912, a Serie C club (3e division) which changed its name to AC Monza in 2019.

He also restored luster to this team which is now playing in Serie A (1D division).

On the other hand, it was at the center of a controversy, last December. During the team’s Christmas dinner, he took the floor to congratulate the players and also promised them “a bus full of prostitutes” if they managed to defeat a top team.
