Périgord clubs go up a notch in the Coupe de France. After eliminating Biars-Bretenoux (Lot) and Angoulême (Charente) on October 28 and 29, Bergerac and Trélissac are already thinking about what to do next.
On the weekend of November 19, Bergerac Périgord FC will host Chamois Niortais who won 1-0 against the small club Mérignac-Arlac in the previous round. Trélissac FC will face Girondins de Bordeaux, leaders of Ligue 2 and winners of Stade Bordelais 3-0. The draw that defined these meetings took place at the same time as that of the 7th round on October 19th. A sporting challenge to which is already added the challenge of the organization to receive the two clubs in good conditions.
Trélissac in the spotlight?
Television could well seize the beautiful poster which opposes Trélissac to Bordeaux. The club also says it is waiting to know the broadcasting rights to give the day and time of the meeting. Particularly followed by its supporters this year after having come close to financial and sporting disaster, the Girondin club could move in numbers. The Trélissac club will therefore look into the organization to choose a suitable site.
Last season, at the same stage of the competition, the Périgords hosted Toulouse, also at the top of the second division at the time. They had lost 1-3 and therefore hope to go further this time in the competition.
Bergerac wants to play on Friday evening
For the match between Bergerac and Niort, there should be no television broadcast according to Paul Fauvel, the club’s general manager. He therefore wishes to organize it on Friday, November 18 at 8 p.m. for “not to compete with Trélissac-Bordeaux”which should be played, according to him, on Saturday or Sunday. “This will allow us to offer the Périgourdins a full weekend of football and a great party!“he adds.
Friday evening would also make it possible to have a greater crowds at the stadium. Paul Fauvel remarks that “People are still on a working week so they go out to Bergerac and are available to go see a football match”. If Niort gave a “oral agreement”, the club must now wait for the agreement and confirmation of the French Football Federation to be able to open the ticket office.
The meeting should take place at the Campréal stadium, with a maximum capacity of 1,400 people. “We can receive all Niort supporters. We have already done so in 2019”, recalls Paul Fauvel. A “good memory” since the Bergeracois won 2-1.
If Bergerac and Trélissac manage to overthrow Niort and Bordeaux, they will climb to the 9th round which marks the entry into the running of the Ligue 1 clubs. An even greater challenge could then await them.
