Every year, the city of Bergen (Norway) perpetuates a tradition where the talents of pastry chefs are put in the spotlight.

Christmas is already everywhere in Bergen (Norway). Illuminated streets, decorations, everything is ready for the holidays. In the heart of the city, an exhibition of which the inhabitants are particularly proud. It is the largest gingerbread town in the world with over 2,000 houses and buildings decorated to the smallest detail. Enough to dazzle passing tourists. “It’s much bigger than I imagined and all the details are amazing and beautiful”exclaims a visitor.

The inhabitants of the city put to work

To put together this exhibition, the town hall is calling on the city’s residents. In a house in the city, it’s a Christmas baking workshop. The dough is almost ready. “You need syrup, cloves, cinnamon”, explains this mother. The whole family is mobilized to prepare and make the gingerbread houses. After Christmas, the gingerbread houses will be destroyed by the children, as tradition dictates.
