We can never say it enough, Italy is a country of cinema. While La Mostra de Venise closed its doors on September 10, after crowning All the Beauty and the Bloodshed by Laura Poitras with a Golden Lion, it is the capital’s turn to adorn itself with light. The 17th edition of the Rome International Film Festival is indeed in full swing, and October 14, 2022 was blue white red, in the land of the boot, since the feature film presented was none other than Cutby Michel Hazanavicius, released with us last May.
To present his film to the Italian public, during the 17th edition of the Rome International Film Festival, the French director Michel Hazanavicius dressed in a very pretty navy blue suit and a white shirt. But his wife, no doubt, stole the show. Real appearance, Bérénice Béjo had come to support her husband – she is also on the bill of Cut ! – in a sublime dress with fluid and light material. Ideal, moreover, for the filmmaker to take hold of it, before arriving in the projection room, for everyone to see… to clean the lenses of his black-rimmed glasses. French chic.
We’re not just lovers or a couple
Couple in the city as on the stage, Bérénice Béjo and Michel Hazanavicius are parents of two children, born in June 2008 and September 2011. Dad and mom, filmmakers and best friends, together they form a stronger duo than anything. “She’s an actress that I really likeexplained the director in the program As an aside. I wish we weren’t together. But as a director, I would have liked to have this meeting with this actress without us being together. In the end, for her, it would have been better. Because there is a somewhat reductive side, I find, to saying ‘She works with her husband’ or ‘He works with his wife’. We are also, when we make a film, a director and she is an actress. We’re not just lovers or a couple.”
