The Montrealer was the 6e player selected in the NBA draft on Thursday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

At the same time, he became the earliest Quebecer drafted in NBA history.

Mathurin’s name has been on everyone’s lips for several months. In 37 games this season, he averaged 17.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. He was the spark plug for the University of Arizona Wildcats, who dominated the regular season but were eliminated in the March Madness Sweet Sixteen as the first seed.

Mathurin was nevertheless elected on various star teams and multiplied the interviews for the repechage.

Raised in Montreal North, the athlete who has just turned 20 said a few weeks ago that he wanted to “help young people pursue sport in Montreal North”.

“There is no one who could tell me that making the NBA was possible younger,” he added.

And yet… He is there.
